Chanticleer "An Orchestra of Voices"
Chanticleer "An Orchestra of Voices"

Chanticleer appears as the second featured artist in the Clarion Performances Series.

Named after the clear-singing rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, Chanticleer is an a capella wonder. The ensemble’s twelve members enchant listeners with musical power, spirit and unity, leading some to dub them “an orchestra of voices.”

The GRAMMY® Award-winning male vocal ensemble based in San Francisco performs a diverse and innovative repertoire, reaching audiences worldwide through live concerts, electronic media, and education. Chanticleer has developed a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. With its seamless blend of twelve male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as “an orchestra of voices.” Hailed by the New Yorker magazine as “America’s favorite choral ensemble” and praised by the Los Angeles Times for its “luxurious perfection.”

Chanticleer appears in concert at the Clarion at Brazosport College on Friday, November 9 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $45 adults and $5 children and students. Jazztravaganza features members of Al Jarreau's band

Jazztravaganza is a celebration of jazz where students get an opportunity to hear and perform with outstanding professional musicians. There are two primary activities of Jazztravaganza. First an afternoon informal concert by professional musicians that includes a question and answer session where students get a chance to gain insight into the skills, training and “life” of professional musicians. Second is an evening concert where each school ensemble performs a few selections with a professional guest artist.  This years guest artists include guitarist John Calderon, bassist/vocalist Chris Walker, drummer Mark Simons, and saxophonist David Caceres. John, Chris & Mark are members of Al Jarreau’s band. David Caceres is currently living and performing in New York. School groups that have participated in the past included: Freeport Intermediate; Lake Jackson Intermediate; Angleton High School; Brazosport High School; Brazoswood High School; Columbia High School; and Brazosport College. The evening concert begins at 7:00pm and admission is free and no tickets are required.
