Jazz Vocalist/Pianist Pamela York

Jazz Vocalist/Pianist Pamela York

The Brazosport College Music Department presents their annual Fall Jazz Concert with the Jazz Singer, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combo. Jazz vocalist and pianist, Pamela York appears as guest soloist with the Brazosport College Jazz Band at the Fall Concert.

Houston resident Pamela York has been described as the ultimate pianist by Jazzreview.com. This not surprising as she was finalist in the Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition in 2006 and 2007 and won the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2007.

Pamela describes her style as "one foot in the tradition and one in the future." As a Jazzreview.com interview has recently said, "While playing tunes made famous by some of the legendary masters, Pamela York makes her own statement without being a pretender." Both newcomers and jazz aficionados will discover an exceptional talent whose future is well worth watching. As Pamela tours throughout the United States and Canada, hoping to reach new audiences through her music, she looks forward to sharing her jazzful heart with you at a live performance.

The Brazosport College Fall Jazz Concert is on Saturday, October 13 at 7:30pm. Admission to the concert is free and no tickets are required.

Chanticleer "An Orchestra of Voices"
Chanticleer "An Orchestra of Voices"

Chanticleer appears as the second featured artist in the Clarion Performances Series.

Named after the clear-singing rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, Chanticleer is an a capella wonder. The ensemble’s twelve members enchant listeners with musical power, spirit and unity, leading some to dub them “an orchestra of voices.”

The GRAMMY® Award-winning male vocal ensemble based in San Francisco performs a diverse and innovative repertoire, reaching audiences worldwide through live concerts, electronic media, and education. Chanticleer has developed a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to jazz, and from gospel to venturesome new music. With its seamless blend of twelve male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as “an orchestra of voices.” Hailed by the New Yorker magazine as “America’s favorite choral ensemble” and praised by the Los Angeles Times for its “luxurious perfection.”

Chanticleer appears in concert at the Clarion at Brazosport College on Friday, November 9 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $45 adults and $5 children and students.
